Liza Meza is the artist behind Future Ancestors, creating work that depicts Mexican American art beyond the kitsch of mainstream iconography. As part of a diverse group of people, largely mixed with different cultures, interests and customs, her deepest connection has long been with Mesoamerican effigies. Building a world that incorporates history is comforting; adding modern elements is convivial. Liza understands that within these mediums there is a powerful simplicity and familiarity that is paralleled with depth and mystery. With an interdisciplinary background that incorporates textile, metal work, digital design and painting, she draws inspiration from said mediums to bring forth unique pieces and strives to bring adornment that resonates with individuality to those who share like minded beliefs, and hopes to connect with people across diverse cultures and social-economic status.
